About

Americana and Jam Band Soul

Night Heron Drive is a  Colorado-based Americana band that bridges the gap between Memphis soul and the expansive, improvisational spirit of the West. Founded by vocalist/songwriter Jennifer Dixon and keyboardist Jason Friedman, the group blends original storytelling with reimagined covers, moving fluidly between structured pop and open-ended jams.

The Foundation

Jennifer Dixon’s style is built on a foundation of "immense truth"—a soulful delivery shaped by her roots in Flowood, MS, and the Memphis club circuit. A Nashville veteran, her career includes an artist development deal with Bluewater Music and collaborations with The Infamous Stringdusters. Her recent work, including the single Waiting on Butterflies, reflects a shift toward an organic sound that embraces her Southern roots through a Colorado lens.

The Dynamics

Denver native Jason Friedman brings a versatile, seasoned edge to the keys. Having shared the stage with artists like Ruston Kelly, Bo Bice,  The Cris Weaver Band, and Of Good Nature, Jason’s playing was forged in the touring circuits of the South and refined back home in the Rockies.

The Sound

Together with a rotating cast of Colorado’s top session players, Jennifer and Jason have cultivated a sound that refuses to stay in one lane. Their sets are a reflection of their shared record collection—anchored by the grit of Steve Earl, the vocal power of Brandi Carlile, and the adventurous, improvisational spirit of  bluegrass,  Grateful Dead,  Phish, and Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Night Heron Drive isn't just a band; it's a conversation between Memphis soul, Nashville craft, and the jam-heavy energy of the Colorado music scene.
